- This 3 bedroom Passive Home is one of the first Passive House renovations in Canada. Working with existing assemblies presents unique challenges for Passive House standards.
- Keeping the structure and certain architectural elements of the existing home helped to reduce costs and speed up construction.
- With a tight urban lot, the window placement is carefully considered to maximize solar gains in the critical rooms.
- Using careful detailing and assemblies, the home achieved a Passive House level of airtightness. The foundation/wall interface is particularly difficult in this kind of project!
Passive Design Solutions is a leading expert in Passive House design and construction. After our first meeting, we knew we were in good hands. The team made it a priority to understand our priorities. We have a beautiful, energy efficient home. It’s warm in the winter, cool in the summer and uses a fraction of the energy of a comparable sized house. We highly recommend Passive Design Solutions. The teams expert advice will be reassuring to anyone."~ Stephen MacDonald and Tara Anstey
