Net Zero Community Care Home for Nova Scotia Disability Support Program
In response to a call for a combined design-build of several four-bedroom care homes as part of the Disability Support Program (DSP), Passive Design Solutions partnered with Dora Construction to develop homes for DSP’s resident population. Built with safety, accessibility, and community in mind, our design intent was to create spaces for supportive, communal living that could easily fit into any residential neighbourhood.
Given the Department of Community Service’s need for more group home beds across Nova Scotia, the design also needed to be easy to modify and flexible enough that one floor plan could work on a wide range of sites in several different planning zones. Designing for off site panelized construction allows these homes to be built quickly while reducing the dependence on local skilled carpenters.
